In sickness & In Health...
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to photograph a Couple at Estes Park after their Civil Marriage Ceremony in Denver, Colorado. Their ceremony was intimate and right in front of the Court House - no photographs - just Mom, Dad, and Judge as their witnesses.
I came in later. I was actually contacted by one of the grooms looking to surprise the other with a photographer during their Honeymoon in Estes Park. They wanted to have the mountains, water, nature in their pictures, and what better place than Estes Park! When I got there, I wasn't the only one surprised. Apparently, one of the grooms has been on dialysis for almost a year and waiting on a kidney transplant list for well over a year. On their way to Estes, they received the call they had been waiting on! Could you just imagine! - you just got married and you're on your way to your honeymoon, get the call that a kidney is ready for you, and now a photographer has shown up to take your pictures. Yeah - a little overwhelming to say the least.
Nevertheless, here I am capturing the moment - their moment - at a beautiful riverfront villa in the mountains of Colorado.
Shortly after taking the initial pictures at the villa, we made our way to Mary's Lake in Estes Park for landscape shots.
That was always the plan but once they've received word that a kidney is ready, we needed to be within cell service to confirm the location and potentially hop on the next flight out.
Thank goodness that our location was only 5 minutes away from the villa so we knew we would have decent cell service and a quick commute back to the hotel - need be. So they made the most out of our next location because everything that was happening was overwhelming and a HUGE deal. There was so much excitement, happiness, overwhelm, and anxious energy but yet, so much love.... so much love that could be felt from their hearts to my lens. It was truly touching and I'm so honored to have been a part of their day.
