One of the most common questions I get before a session is: “What should we wear for our photos?” And I get it—outfits can truly make or break your final gallery. So let’s talk about how to achieve a beautifully cohesive look like the one in this photo, but with a light, airy spring twist.

Start with a Color Palette:

In fall, we lean into rust, cinnamon, and deep browns. For spring, think soft neutrals with gentle pops of color. A beautiful spring palette might include:

  • Warm taupe or oat
  • Dusty rose or muted peach
  • Olive or sage green
  • Buttercream or ivory
  • Pale denim or soft blush

Pick 2-3 Base Colors and 1 Accent Tone. This keeps the group looking coordinated without being matchy-matchy.

Mom sets the tone:

Flowy dresses in light fabrics like chiffon, gauze, or cotton photograph so well. Try midi or maxi lengths with ruffle or sleeve details. Look for soft solids, small floral prints, or subtle textures.

Layer for Dimension:

Even in spring, light layers (like a knit cardigan, denim jacket, or suspender shorts) add depth without adding heat. Children look adorable in timeless pieces—linen rompers, Peter Pan collars, cotton dresses with bloomers, or vintage-inspired sandals.

Where to Shop:

Here are a few of my go-to sources for beautiful, photo-ready spring outfits:

  • For Women: Baltic Born, VICI, Petal & Pup, or Altar’d State
  • For Kids: Zara Kids, H&M, Jamie Kay, or Noralee
  • For Men: Old Navy (neutral basics!), Gap, J.Crew Factory

Final Tip:

Lay all the outfits out together before the shoot. If the tones blend nicely and nothing feels too loud or clashing, you’re on the right track. Don’t forget to check that shoes and accessories match the vibe—nothing too modern or logo-heavy.

When in doubt, send me a photo of your options—I’m here to help you style with confidence!
